BoI Empowers 5,000 Women in Ondo

No fewer than 5,000 women in Ondo State have benefitted from the empowerment programme of the Bank of Industry (BoI) with the granting of loans to start or boost their businesses.

The BoI Executive Director, Mrs Toyin Adeniji, who disclosed this to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, said the programme was designed to empower women entrepreneurs to achieve sustainable economic growth in the country.

Adeniji, who spoke during the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Clinic held in Akure, said 4,000 women had benefitted before the commencement of the clinic where relevant stakeholders gathered to enlighten business men and women on how they can boost their trade.

According to Adeniji, no fewer than 1,000 beneficiaries would receive alert through their individual telephones during the programme organised by the federal government in the state.

Okorocha thanks police for arrests over stolen APC poll materials

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has commended the Nigeria Police over the arrest of the 4 suspects that stole sensitive materials meant for state APC ward and local government elections, saying the arrests have vindicated his earlier assertion that the materials were stolen by political detractors.

It would be recalled that Governor Okorocha and bonafide APC members in the southeastern state have maintained that the sensitive materials meant for the ward congresses of party in the state were stolen, while members of a breakaway coalition he stated were deceiving Nigerians by claiming that the congresses had held.

Governor Okorocha also pointed out that some strange characters from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had imported their style of politics into the APC which, he noted. is presently making the party to act like them.

Pay more attention to healthcare, Soyinka advises government

A Lagos- based medical expert, Dr Dapo Soyinka, on Sunday called on government at all levels to pay more attention to healthcare services to reduce brain drain and medical tourism.

Soyinka, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, Maternal and Child Centre , Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos State, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria  in Lagos.

According to him, unless there is an improvement in the funding, infrastructure and welfare of health workers in the country, Nigerians will not get quality healthcare.

He added that poor health services and motivation for workers had been responsible for the exodus of Nigeria’s best brains in medical sector to developed climes  for greeener pastures.
