Ndume expresses concern over escalation of attacks in North-East

A federal lawmaker, Senate Ali Ndume, has expressed concern over the escalation of Boko Haram attacks on Nigerian troops and residents in the North-East.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, voiced his thoughts while speaking with journalists on Friday, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.

He stated that Boko Haram had launched several attacks, which led to deaths of soldiers in Borno and Yobe states.

He said, “I am worried on the sudden resurgence of Boko Haram in the North East.

“Some weeks ago, it was alleged that 48 soldiers were killed. On Tuesday, there was another attack in Wala Pulka in Gwoza where it was alleged that many passengers were abducted.

“There was an attack some time ago in Jilli where many soldiers were killed, another came in Zari. There was another one in Njimtilo and Bama axis. I learnt also that there was an attack on commuters along Maiduguri to Ngala. All these attacks occurred in two months.”

Police arrest 37 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers in Kaduna, Nasarawa

The Police Commands in Kaduna and Nasarawa states on Friday said they had arrested 37 suspected armed robbers and many kidnappers in recent weeks.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Ahmad Abdulrahaman, at a briefing with journalists in Kaduna, the capital, said the command also arrested three people involved in currency counterfeiting and a motorcycle thief within the period, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.

He said, “The police under my watch will respect the diversity of the state, display courage, show compassion and demonstrate professionalism and shun corruption.

“Items recovered from the suspects include, one locally fabricated gun, two Dane guns, six live cartridges, 1,366 live 7.62mm ammunition.

“Also large bundles of counterfeit US dollars, three motorcycles, one cutlass, eight wrist watches, one knife and assorted charms were seized from them.”

Seychelles talk tough as Eagles face tricky test

Seychelles say they will be out to pull off one biggest underdog victories in football history by beating Nigeria in their  Group E   Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Victoria on Saturday.

The Super Eagles are under pressure to win the encounter  to keep their hopes alive for a place in the continental showpiece after  their 2-0 defeat by South Africa on the opening day of the qualifiers in Uyo last year left them in a precarious position in the group.

The first two  teams will  reach Cameroon from the group, and Libya, who  sit atop the ladder following their 5-1 defeat of Seychelles last year, are on track. They are followed by  South Africa on the log.
