Sanwo-Olu: Ambode support group petitions Oshiomhole

The Ambode Mandate Support Group has sent a petition to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, over the endorsement of his opponent in the forthcoming governorship primary by the party leadership in the state.

The Chairman of the group, Mr Akeem Sulaimon, made this known at a rally on Sunday in Lagos to mobilise support for the second term bid of Ambode.

Sulaimon said the action of the state Chairman, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, and members of the Governorship Advisory Council endorsing an aspirant as a candidate of the party was a violation of the party’s constitution.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the GAC, which is the highest decision making organ in Lagos APC, has endorsed Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, Ambode’s challenger in the forthcoming primary.

Sen. Anthony Adefuye, a member of the council, announced the endorsement to party members on Saturday, at a stakeholders’ meeting at the ACME Road state party secretariat.

Use stolen funds to pay minimum wage, SERAP tells presidency

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intensify the crackdown on stolen funds to fund the new minimum wage proposed by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

Mr Timothy Adewale, the Deputy Director of SERAP, said this on Sunday in Lagos.

“The minimum wage of N18, 000 for Nigerian workers stands in sharp contrast with outrageous and sometimes illegal salaries and allowances of high-ranking public officials who continue to enjoy lavish lifestyles with impunity.

“Vulnerable Nigerian workers are left in a precarious situation, unable to ensure a decent standard of living for themselves and their families, with access to water, health, and education seriously undermined,” Adewale said in a statement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NLC had on Sept. 27 directed workers to go on a nationwide warning strike.

The NLC gave the directive following the failure of the government to review the N65, 000 minimum wage…

The three labour unions had demanded N65,500 as new minimum wage for workers, while the private employers and some state governors were proposing N25,000.

President of the NLC Ayuba Wabba said at a world news conference in Abuja on Sunday that the strike was suspended after the government agreed to reconvene the tripartite…
